Google Pays Tribute to Heinrich Hertz with a Wavy Logo

by Cleo on February 22, 2012

Click on the Google’s home page today and you would find this wavy red, green, blue and yellow logo. It commemorates Heinrich Rudolph Hertz. A physicist, he was the key person in discovering radio waves. This German physicist was born 155 years before on today’s date.

Something Unique

The Google’s logo is distinct from its other Doodles as the search engine’s name doesn’t appear on the logo. Instead of this you would see a multi-colored wave. It is animated in a GIF format. The wave is there on the screen until you click the logo. And, once you click the logo, you are taken to the search results.

Who is Hertz?

Hertz was the man behind establishing electromagnetic waves’ being. He was the first person to transmit and collect radio waves. This he made possible by making a basic device. Did you know this device was behind the invention of telegraph, radio, television and radar? The wireless services which seem to be convenient these days came into being due to these devices. And, the unit of frequency, Hertz (Hz) is named after him.

This is not a new doodle but the search engine giant pays homage to inventors and scientists as and when the occasion is.
